I'm working on a larger teddy bear for a commission. Here are the first pictures.
The head is not completed, I need to make the muzzle and place the ears.
The body is done and a first leg. I painted the shadows of a face and the foot pad.
Now, back to work .....

To all my blog readers, my fellow artists, Chantal Bears Collectors, and my friends, I wish you a peaceful and a very happy New Year.

I want to end my 2011 blog with a collection of events that touched me a lot this year.

I have been very lucky to meet a teddy bear artist Elena Nikitina ; in August we decided to do a bears exchange.

When the parcel arrived in Russia, she sent me a lovely picture ;

I did the same thing when a parcel arrived in Canada :

Later, I received a surprise message from Jan Nethercut; Verena, my teddy bear girl arrived in US and all the bears had a party together.

Jan allowed me to publish the picture on my blog.

That's what she wrote :

"Verena is a precious little girl-cub and was welcomed in my Hug by a party given by the bears. Attached is a picture of Hitty taking charge of Verena, Crackers (by me), Janet (by Yvonne) with Lily (Mary R.) standing in back with balloons. Of course, I didn't get pictures of all the fun. You know how bears are, they don't stay still very long. It was a great party and I think she enjoyed it all."

Thanks Jan for the lovely moment in my teddy bear life.

This year, Julie received an TBAAF award, a third place in miniatures category ;

For my teddy bears, I decided to increase the size of my teddy bears ; I added knitted accessories to my miniatures bears ; a challenge I wanted to achieve and I did it.

I wrote a pattern for a knitted teddy bear.

The last challenge has been a 6 inches knitted teddy bear ; Aurelie was the last teddy bear of the year.

For 2012, I still have new challenges and new projects in my head.

Thanks to you all ; I'm spoiled to have such great people around me and I am who I am because of you !!!

Now I must share with you some reactions from my family following me and the creation part of my life in the last 9 years :

When I complete a teddy bear, the first critic is Alain, my husband : "This one, for sure, he will find a new home !!!"

My daughters now :

Laura : she talks to the new bear : "Hi ..., you are so nice, such beautiful eyes.... you are such a cutie !!!"

Johannie in Belgium : "Mom, how can you do it? so detailed ? All teddies you make are more and more alive !!!!"

My sister Danielle, in Balgium : Chan, every time you sent me a picture of your teddies, they become more beautiful"

And now, I have new "fans", my grandchildren : Lola (5) who always ask me to show her my new creation (on Skype).

Darren (6) who is so proud to tell people that his grandma can design teddy bears !!!

As you see, my life is filled of love and teddy bears lovers !!!

Tribute to Ian Fowler, a great man and friend

Saturday a bad news arrived ; Ian passed away ; his death was sudden and my husband and I, we have been shocked by the news ; knowing Ian, it was impossible that he lost a battle ; however, cancer had the first place this time.
Ian was one of my students in French second language ; I was just a little teacher compared to him ; always smiling, laughing and he liked to help people ; the life was a no-problem life ; only solutions no problems.
His family was his secret garden but when he knew that my daughter was named Laura, I knew that his daughter was a Laura too.
Ian, we will miss you, the side we know ; Alain, my husband has a beard for the moment, for Movember ; he did not like it but now he has a goal ; he knows that Movember will help people fighting against that sickness.
I thank you for all you did for me, for my family and the first job, you gave to my daughter Laura ; we will not forget it and I will keep you alive with your smile, "pas de problèmes, Chantal" (how many times you told me that).
The French group Students will stay in my heart and you are in that "family of French babies" that I adored during the two years we spent together.
I would like to show you pictures I have from that part of my life.... remember, when Don decided to imitate Ian with his cell ; Ian you were always busy, the big discussions we had, serious and not very serious.
You were my future specialist ; we had several specialists : in grammar, Cheryl, in reading, Jack, in laughing, Don and....... you know the story, you were there with us....

Standing just over 2.5 inches - 6 cm tall.

She has black glass eyes.

She is 5 way jointed.Firmly stuffed with premium polyfiberfill.

Lavender has a mini lavender bow on her head and she wears a little knitted dress specially made for her.Her legs have been weighted

with glass beads.

She is so sweet and has a lot of love to give.

I'm sure she will find a Mommy very soon.

Two days before the Canadian Posts strike, I shipped two little ones ; imagine how I was worry for them ; the first one was for United Kingdom

And the second one to France :

Both arrived these Tuesday and Wednesday after a three weeks travel ; their new moms have been very patient and I had to thank them for that.

They understood the situation.

Since a few days now, we don't have any mail ; the Canadian Posts decided a lock out last Wednesday ; my fear, I shipped 2 teddy bears just before the lock out and I had to stop to put bears on Ebay....
However, it looks that Harper voted a new law and the employees will have to go back work on next Monday.
I continue my work and my passion ; 3 teddy bears will be ready very soon.
But, somewhere, I'm feeling that I'm so dependent of their services... and I don't like it....
I'm crossing fingers for a fast restart of Canada Posts.
I checked prices with other mail companies ; it's very expansive.
I have another solution ; going to US and bring my parcels there...
We will see....

My daughter, Johannie, made me want to have orchids ; my dear husband, bought me two. A white one and a purple.
It seems it is not easy to take care of these plants.

I sold a teddy bear a few days ago ; the lady was so happy when she received the parcel, that she took pictures and sent them to me to show where she put the little bear.
Can you imagine, as an Artist, the joy and happiness that lady brought to me.
I know that my little one is safe and in good hands !!!!!

My daughter's cat passed away 3 days ago ; he was not sick, nothing wrong with him ; however, my daughter was moving and when she arrived in a new apartment, Keedo was dead ; we don't know what happened to him.
Just we will miss him a lot ; Keedo was a spoiled baby, very nice, soft, giving a lot of love ...
So I decided to paint a portrait of Keedo.

Fourth and Last week for my Christmas Creations and a MASTER PIECE

Every year, since 2003, I designed a special teddy bear with something new ; this year, I created Benjamin.

This last Christmas creation for 2010 symbolizes, Christmas with Benjamin the Teddy Bear and inside the glass ball, the Year of the Rabbit (2011), with the mini white rabbit.
The Benjamin style is classical with a bump on his back.

Only for the show, I took a picture of the three teddy bears, Caroline, Anthony and Awen ; all have found a new home :

For the first time, I would like to create an articulated teddy bear and I did it ; in place of the elbow, I put a bead and here is the result ; her name is Rina and she is on Ebay for the moment. Chalina is a mini Teddy Bear girl, measuring 2,5 inches when standing on her legs, made from a mix of thread and yarn.

Her face is finished with hand painted gentle shadings and her features are embroidered with thread.

We are missing Arnold our cockatiel

On last October 15th, Arnold was not in good shape ; he is gone during the night at 2.15 am ; he was not alone ; I was with him, trying to make his pain not so difficult.

Arnold was like a family member, he was following us everywhere ; if we had to travel for my eye treatment at 1600 kms, he was in the car ;he liked it ; when my husband stop the car for a red light, he was not happy and was screaming asking to continue; his master but his best friend was Alain my husband.

Mom was there to share her love ; everyday, he was my pause friend ; staying on my shoulder, putting his head against my neck, he read a book with me during one hour.

Arnold, we are missing you and the big words you were saying... oh yes.... and also when you saw nice girls, you liked to call them....

For the first time, I designed and created a HUGE teddy bear ; it was a challenge for me ; it was the first time I made one so big.
So I decided to present Candie in a contest in Saint John - NB

As you can see, I added an open mouth with a tongue and teeth.

And for the occasion, I updated the artist picture.
Candie would be judged next Tuesday and she will be back on Saturday, September 4th 2010 .
I'm crossing fingers because that contest is new also for me.
